Stijn Postema

My name is Stijn Postema. I am a journalist with a background in visual arts. For over a decade I worked as a freelance journalist for magazines and newspapers in the Netherlands. I love it when journalism and design come together.
A well written piece is worthy of a great design. A fantastic design should only be filled with the best examples of penmanship.

It’s said to be the golden age of journalism. I believe instead that this is the golden age of News Design. An era of aesthetic journalism, where the designer and the journalist are both equally important.

I started this blog to write about News Design around the world and find beautiful, functional and inspiring examples. Why Dutch? I’ll explain that in this short & silent movie:

This is what I did & do:
  • Journalism lecturer at: Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburg, Scotland, UK (present); The University of Applied Sciences CHE, Ede, the Netherlands (present); Tibiscus University, Timisoara, Romania (past); Vrij Universiteit, Amsterdam, the Nettherlands (past).
  • Publications about journalism: Nieuwejournalistiek.nl; Nieuwereporter.nl
  • Book publications: Cityside Oasis, or how to bridge the gap between city and countryside; De kerk is dood, leve de koning – a book on the rise and fall of the church in the Netherlands; Schokland – an educational handbook and exercise book on journalism studies.
  • 15 years of freelance journalism for: Trouw, Nederlands Dagblad, Reader’s Digest and many other publishers, magazines and newspapers.
