I truly believe in good design. This I say as a freelance journalist who has been publishing for more than twelve years in various books, newspapers and magazines, on and offline.
I always loved it when my work as a journalist is presented in the most beautiful and functional way possible. It’s a pain to work hard, research long, write and rewrite, and then see all my efforts being messed up in the the most unsightly way possible. That really wrecks a day.
While a good, functional design, well, really illuminates a week – or at least a long weekend.
So this is why I put up this blog: To inspire journalists to develop a sense for beauty and design. To inspire designers to really understand the story the journalist wants to tell. So both qualities can blend.
Oh, just to be sure. Dutch is not referring to cheap news design (but I must admit I got this excellent blog design for free – thanks Axl). It’s where I’m from: the Netherlands. Here is why I believe we are in a golden age of journalism news design.
